A.B. Carrington

Mr. A.B. Carrington, age 87 of Cookeville, died Saturday afternoon, November 27, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Carrington's family will receive friends Wednesday evening, December 1st from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Private family interment will be held Thursday at Crest Lawn Cemetery. A.B. was born May 7, 1934 in Baxter to the late J. Coonie Thompson and Carrie Tennessee Daws Thompson. Days after his birth, his mother died and he was taken in by his aunt and uncle J.M. and Minnie Thompson Carrington, where he lived and worked on the farm throughout his childhood years. On December 10, 1973, he began working at Gould, now known as Tutco. He worked there for over 45 years and made many close, lasting friends. He retired from Tutco on July 19, 2019. Prior to working at Tutco he was a truck driver for different companies. He enjoyed working outside mowing, cutting bushes and trees, working on the tractor and riding his grandchildren on the tractor. He enjoyed visiting with his neighbor Jim and together they worked on many projects. He was a former softball coach and enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing the game. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Carrington; brothers, Haston Thompson and Austin Thompson; a special cousin, Josephine Kirby; and by his uncle and aunt who were his adoptive parents, J.M. Carrington and Minnie Thompson Carrington. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bobbie Jean Maggart Carrington; daughters, Pam (Mike) Carrington of Austin, TX and Patty Oliphant, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Kayla Clark, Kolby (Thayna) Oliphant, Kylie (Colin) Moorer and Kacey Vandervort; and by great grandchildren, Annalee and Liam Clark and Lyla B and Brady Moorer. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested and asked to be made to the charity of your choice. Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111.
