William Dewey Mathis

Funeral services for William Dewey Mathis 85, of Cookeville will be Thursday, August 13 at 11 AM from the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 8 PM and after 9 AM Thursday until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Buddy Reeder and Bro. Steve Reeder will officiate. Mr. Mathis died Monday, August 10, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1935 to the late Leslie "Les" and Susie Alcorn Mathis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Louise Mathis Walker, father and mother-in-law Wiley and Elise Reeder. He was a retired truck driver with 43 years of service. He was a local driver, over the years he drove for JB Hawkins, WT Sewell, Miland, Jones Trucking, Ryder Pie and Norwalk Furniture. He enjoyed fun and having a good time, fishing and hunting. Survived by wife of 59 years (Married March 25, 1961) Sue Reeder Mathis of Cookeville, daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Radford Duke of Silver Point, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Carolyn Mathis of Baxter, sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Ellen and Herman Keith of Hendersonville, Buddy and Linda Reeder of Cookeville, Nephews and wives: Johnny and Cindy Mathis, Jeff and Donna Mathis, Steve and Kerri Reeder, Chuck and Lisa Porter, great nieces and nephews: Tyler Reeder, Bo Reeder, Abbi Kline, Kaylin Mercer, Cole Porter, Chris Mathis and Jessica Wade.
