Funeral services for Mr. Winburn Patton "W.P." Elrod, age 89 of Springfield, TN and former longtime resident of Cookeville, will be held Friday, June 5, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Keith Tosh will officiate. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Friends are invited to come by the funeral home to sign the guest book and pay their respects on Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. Mr. Elrod died Saturday May 30, 2020 at Northcrest Medical Center in Springfield. He was born August 27, 1930 in the Martin's Creek Community of Putnam Co. to the late William Lowery and Sarah Elizabeth Bryant Elrod. W.P. retired from Fleetguard where he worked until he was 73 years old. He enjoyed eating; watching wrestling and Judge Judy; whittling on a cedar stick; visiting with his friends; sitting at the car lot with his cousin, Fred Bryant; talking with his nephew and wife, Charles and Audrey Elrod; walking at Cane Creek Park and Hooper Eblen Center and talking about the good ole days when life was hard, but much simpler. He was a tender-hearted, hard-working, generous man who expressed his faith in Jesus. He will be greatly missed until we see him in Heaven one day. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Louise Rogers Elrod; brothers, Archie, Willie and Lennie Elrod; sisters, Avie Starkey, O'dell Pyle, Polly Thamm and Anna Lee Chaffin. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Steve Burchfield; grandson, Matthew Burchfield, all of Springfield; step-son and step daughter-in-law, Jerry and Brenda Wilson, and step-daughter, Pamela Johnson, all of Bowling Green, KY; step-grandchildren and their families, Michael Wilson, Jill Lindsey, Dana Wilson, Julie Doss and Penny Binion; many nieces and nephews; and by special friends, Susan Wilmoth and Jim and Nan Smith. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. W.P.'s family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Morningside Assisted Living in Springfield, TN for their love and care for him.
