Teresa Smith

Maria Teresa Pinero Dizon Smith, known to friends and family as Teresa, passed away on Monday May 15, 2023, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN. Born on December 29, 1956, in Dumaguete, Philippines, Teresa was a woman of unwavering faith and boundless love for her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Tony Smith, whom she married on December 14, 1982, in Jacksonville, FL. Teresa and Tony met while he was stationed in the Philippines serving in the US Marine Corps.

Teresa was a proud and devoted mother to her two sons, Ben Smith and his wife Katie of Cary, NC, and Andy Smith and his wife Elizabeth of Dover, DE. She delighted in her role as grandmother to Baxter, Maric, and Rowan Smith. Teresa is also survived by her sister, Candeloria Ligon of Dumaguete, Philippines.

As a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Teresa's faith was a constant source of strength and inspiration throughout her life. She had a passion for connecting with others and was known for her love of playing bingo with her friends. Her caring nature, warm heart, and enthusiasm for life were contagious to all who knew her.

Teresa's legacy of love, faith, and generosity will live on in the hearts and memories of those she touched throughout her life. As we remember and celebrate her life, let us honor her memory by striving to embody the same qualities of kindness, compassion, and faith that defined her. Teresa's spirit will be forever missed, but her light will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday May 20 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery. Teresa's family will welcome friends Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and again Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
