Dr. Sam B. Coward Jr., age 90 of Algood, passed away Saturday August 28, 2021 at Morningside Assisted Living. He was born April 30, 1931 in Livingston, Overton County, TN to the late Sam B. Coward Sr. and Marie England Coward. Sam was a longtime and respected Pharmacist in the Upper Cumberland area. He owned and operated Algood Drugs for over 30 years and after selling the business he worked as a relief Pharmacist at pharmacies in Livingston, Sparta, Monterey, Crossville, and Gainesboro. He served in the Tennessee National Guard and was called to active duty as a medic during the Korean War. Sam and his wife Kathyrn were bird watching enthusiasts. During retirement they traveled to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and the Dominican Republic in search of new birds to add to their life list of sightings. He is survived by his daughter, Kay (husband David) Brady of Cookeville; son, Sam B. (wife Wendy) Coward III of Crosslake, MN; grandchildren, David (wife Catherine) Carter, John Brady, and Fiona (husband Brian) Hardy; great grandchildren, Juana, Finn, and Roland: nieces, Elizabeth (husband Bill) Cameron of Cookeville, and Barbara (husband John) Maxwell of Carthage. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathyrn Hinds Coward; and sister, Jane Turner of Carthage. Graveside services and interment will be at 1p.m. Saturday September 11 at Overton County Memorial Gardens in Livingston. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
