Roy Hunter

Roy Gordon Hunter, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 27, 1941 in Cookeville, TN.


Roy was a proud US Navy veteran who served his country with honor and distinction. After his service, he returned to Cookeville and for many years owned and operated Reliable Machine Shop. Known for his expertise and strong work ethic, Roy earned the respect and admiration of his peers and customers alike.


Roy was known for his keen eye and vast knowledge of firearms. His firearm collection was a testament to his appreciation for the craftsmanship and engineering behind each piece. His passion for history and love for learning led him to spend countless hours digesting history books.


Most importantly, Roy's faith was an essential part of his life. As a devout member of Hampton's Crossroads Baptist Church, his dedication to his faith and family will be remembered and cherished by all who were lucky enough to have known him.


Roy was a devoted husband to his wife, Martha Henley Hunter. His family also includes three daughters, Missy (Tommy) Ray of Livingston, Beth (Danny) Powers of Cookeville, and Cindy Hunter of Cookeville; brothers, William Hunter of Georgia and Don McLaurin of Florida; sister-in-law, Edith (Dean) Anderson of Cookeville; and niece, Linda (Terry) Pompell of Cookeville.


He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Gordon and Sue Hunter; mother and step-father, Loretta and Donald McLaurin; and granddaughter, Amber Simpson.


Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 10 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Maston Jackson will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. His family will welcome friends Tuesday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.


Memorial contributions may be made in Roy's memory to the Hampton Crossroads Baptist Church, 109 Stallion Rd, Cookeville, TN 38506.
