Rev. John Davis

Funeral services for Rev. John Darrell Davis, age 83, were held Sunday, March 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Josh Sherman and Rev. Michael Dickerson officiated. Interment followed in Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County. His family received friends Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and again Sunday from 12 noon until service time at the church. The family appreciated social distancing measures and the use of face coverings. Rev. Davis died Friday morning, March 12, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born Saturday July 24, 1937 in Nashville to John William and Nellie Isabelle Meredith Davis. He was a graduate of Goodlettsville High School and earned a bachelor's degree in English from Belmont University in 1960. Rev. Davis began preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ at age 16 and pastored his first church in College Grove, TN while attending Belmont. He faithfully pastored Cedar Hill Baptist Church in Baxter for 30 years. He served in bi-vocational ministry for over 60 years and was a former President of the Bi-Vocational Ministers and Wives Fellowship of the Southern Baptist Convention. He taught school in Georgia, Van Buren County, and Putnam County for 16 years. He also worked for several years as an insurance agent for AFLAC and Jackson National Life Insurance Company, and created his own insurance company, Life Services. His life was chronicled in a book he authored entitled, "From Glory to Glory to Glory". Rev. Davis enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and golfing. One of his most interesting hobbies was finding and identifying wildflowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Davis and sister, Dorothy Owens. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Faye Hopkins Davis (whom he married January 23, 1961 in Ringgold, GA); daughters, Tammy Bush and husband, David and Mary Nell Davis and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Emily (Stephen) Austin, Brett Bush and Cole Bush; and several nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers were: Mark Webb, Bill Hiolman, Shane Farris, Todd Farris, Deacons at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, and his fellow Ministers of The Stone Association. Active Pallbearers were: Mike Davis, David Bush, Brett Bush, Cole Bush, Daniel Davis and Andy Barclay.
