Funeral services for Mrs. Rebecca Ellen Young, 91 of Baxter, and a former long-time resident of Charleston, South Carolina, will be held Monday September 5 at 11 a.m. at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery. Rev. John Davis will officiate. Mrs. Young died Saturday morning September 3, 2011 in NHC of Cookeville. She was born December 19, 1919 in Whitehouse, Tennessee to the late Nealy and Allie Cothen Gregory. She was a homemaker. Since moving to Baxter 35 years ago, she has been an active member of Cedar Hills Baptist Church. She was deeply devoted to her Christian Faith and her passion in life was to teach others the love of Jesus Christ. She was known for the letters she penned to family and friends or anyone who needed to be encouraged. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allison Leon Young; two sisters, Mabel Gregory and Ruby Thomas, and three brothers, Rev. Harold Gregory, Rev. Ray Gregory, and Edward Gregory. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ellen Lee of Charleston, SC; son, Ronald D. Young of Avon Park, FL; two grandchildren, Lauren (James) Gordon of Charleston, SC, and Joseph Lee of Guam; and three great grandchildren, Allie, Danielle, and Jackson Gordon. Pallbearers will be Barry Wilson, Sam Gaylord, David Bush, Kevin Hayes, Ronnie Wilson, Fred Shanks, Shane Farris, and Steve Austin.
