Funeral services for Mrs. Opal McCormick, age 94 of Cookeville, will be held Friday November 28th at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral with Bro. Danny Hembree officiating. Entombment will follow at Crest Lawn Mausoleum. Mrs. McCormick's family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. McCormick died Monday evening November 24, 2014 at Bethesda Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Cookeville. She was born June 27, 1920 in Cedar Grove, West Virginia to the late Jessie Elliot and Devina Jane Epling Garretson. Opal and her late husband lived in Detroit, MI before moving to Cookeville in 1976. While in Detroit she worked as a factory worker at Maynard's. She enjoyed telling her family of her taking dance lessons at Arthur Murray's. She will be fondly remembered as feisty and stubborn, but she had also had a really big heart. She had a sweet tooth and especially loved chocolate. She loved her family so much. She will be missed beyond belief. She was a member of Algood United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, Oscar McCormick; sisters, Loma Pauley, Lola Sams, Thelma Garten, Gusta Pauley and Norma Harpole; and by brothers, Ceibert Garretson and Spurgeon Garretson Survivors include her niece, Judy Debot; great nephews, Chris DeBot (fiance Amanda and daughter Katie), Corey (Marla) DeBot, and Cole DeBot; great great nieces, Kortney, Morgan, Rachel and Amber DeBot and great great nephew, Jonathon DeBot, all of Cookeville; and by a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins. Chris, Corey, Cole and Jonathan DeBot will serve as pallbearers.
