Funeral services for Mrs. Odell Looper Swann, 83, of Cookeville will be held Thursday, June 28 at 11 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home Funeral Home with interment to follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Swann went to be with her Heavenly Lord Monday afternoon June 25, 2012 following a brief illness at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 27, 1928 to the late Bale Alonza and Lou Breeding Looper of Monterey. She graduated Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Education. Mrs. Swann was a member of Collegeside Church of Christ and was a retired school teacher of more than 50 years. She often stated that teaching children was one of the great joys in her life. Mrs. Swann began teaching in July 1947 and retired from the Clay County School System in May 1990. She then taught at the Plateau Mental Health Center for 7 more years before ending her career as a substitute teacher. In her spare time, Odell was a talented and passionate seamstress and quilter. Her beautiful quilts and Christmas creations were a delight to all who saw them. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, Wayne Fleming Swann (her husband of 50 years), granddaughter, Rebecca Louise Craighead, two brothers and sister-in-law, Joseph Hunter Looper, and Gilbert & Allene Looper. Mrs. Swann is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Phil Craighead, two special granddaughters, Rachel Craighead who stayed with her and took her places and Emily Craighead who she loved to go watch play basketball, all of Cookeville; devoted cousin, Ann Karch, close friend Laquanah Crowder, and many friends, fellow teachers, and former students. Services will be conducted by Joe Roberts and Bob Farris. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Johnson, Joe H. Wilson and the Elders and Deacons of Collegeside Church of Christ. Active pallbearers will be Gerald Buckmaster, Alan West, Robert Gribble, Harold Randolph, H.C. Wilson and Johnny Looper. The family would like to express deep gratitude and thanks to the nurses and doctors of Cookeville Regional Medical Center"�s ICU for their skilled care and kind treatment to our mother.
