Monroe Lee Newton, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2023, at the age of 98, in his son's home in Cookeville. Born on August 7, 1924, in Lapel, Indiana, he was the son of the late Eldon Lee Newton and Ida Alice Hersberger Newton.
Monroe was a proud World War II US Navy veteran who served on the USS Crowley, demonstrating bravery and loyalty to his country. After his service, he embarked on a successful career at Cummins Filtration in Cookeville, where he retired after many years of dedicated work.
Monroe was a devoted member of Christ Community Church, where he shared his faith and love for God with his community. He was known for his great sense of humor, dependability, and never complaining, even in difficult situations. Monroe was a talented woodworker, and his creations brought joy to many. He was also a generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
He is survived by his two loving sons, Danny (Caroline) Newton of Cookeville and Donald (Judy) Newton of Baxter; his cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Phipps, Matthew (Heather) Newton, Greg Newton, and Melody (Aron) Gaurdy: and seven great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Alma Eileen Newton; two sons, Darrell and Richard Newton; three brothers, Robert, Eugene, and Herbert Newton; and two sisters, Sarah Ann Mustard and Francis Newton.
Monroe's life was a testament to the values he held dear: hard work, family, and faith. His legacy will live on through the lives of those he touched with his kindness, humor, and generosity.
