Michael Eugene Thompson of Cookeville, Tennessee passed away on February 21, 2022 at the age of 59. Mike was born on October 23, 1962 in Cookeville, Tennessee, the only child of Gene and Ann Thompson. Mike grew up in Cookeville, attending Jere Whitson Elementary School, Cookeville Junior High School, and Putnam County High School. Mike began working in EMS as a volunteer with the Putnam County Fire Department upon graduation from high school. Mike went on to become an EMT and later a paramedic with Putnam County EMS. After many faithful years working on an ambulance, Mike became a dispatcher for EMS, and later became the assistant 911 director and then the 911 director for Putnam County. He was a beloved member of the Jere Whitson Road Church of Christ for many years, and he served as a deacon of the congregation for a period during that time. Mike was soft-spoken, but he had a sharp sense of humor, and he loved children, especially his grandchildren, deeply. He enjoyed studying history, especially local history and ghost stories, the Kennedy administration, and the Civil War. He had a vast knowledge of trivia, especially related to music, and a deep love for his friends and family. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Lee Thompson and his unborn grandchild Alex Scott. He is survived by his wife Kim Thompson of thirty-four years of Cookeville; his father Gene and his wife Martha of Cookeville; his daughter Marissa Scott and her husband Drew of Rickman; his son David Thompson of Soddy Daisy; his granddaughters Emery, Avery, and Cambry Scott; sister-in-law Beverly Gentry and her husband and his best friend Tony of Cookeville; as well as a great extended family and many other friends. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday February 25 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Phil Martin and Randy Porter will officiate. Interment with emergency services honors will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. and again Friday from 1 p.m. until time of services. Pallbearers will be Jeff Scott, Jeff Sharp, Jason Gentry, Brent Green, Wayne McDonald, Chuck Bobbitt, David Phy, and Chris Sparks. Honorary pallbearers will be members of local emergency services agencies. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sacred Selections at sacredselections.org.
