A Mass of Christian Burial for Martha Rebecca Russell Higgs, 88, of Cookeville will be celebrated Tuesday, February 28 at 1 pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Father Chad Puthoff officiating. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 5 pm until 8 pm with a prayer service at 5pm and again on Tuesday from 11 am until 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Higgs died Friday morning February 24, 2012 at her home. She was born May 16, 1923 in St. Marys County, MD to the late Edward Gary Russell and Ruth Gibson Russell Jones. Mrs. Higgs and her husband "Art"� lived in Washington D.C. until moving to Cookeville in 1962 with the Keene Corporation. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Arthur "Art"� Higgs, three siblings, Chris Russell, Milton Russell and Shirley Scena and a daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Higgs. Mrs. Higgs is survived by six sons, J. Wayne Higgs of Hughesville, MD; David and wife Wanda Higgs of Savannah, GA; Michael and wife Dannye Higgs of Davidson, NC; Tim and wife Jennifer Higgs of Kingston Springs, TN; John Arthur III "Jack"� and wife Rebekka of Conifer, CO, and Steve Higgs and wife Connie of Hernando, MS; two daughters, Janet and husband Jack Aldrich, and Kathleen and husband Ted Hillebrand all of Cookeville; 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie & Eula Russell of Fredericksburg, VA; and sister-in-law, Edna Higgs of Palm Coast FL. Martha devoted her time and love to her family. Many people came into her life at various points only to remain in her heart always. Her "family"� was not just relatives but all these wonderful people as well.
