Funeral services for Mable Elise Lane, 92, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday. Mrs. Lane passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at her home. She was born Saturday June 13, 1925 in the family home on Maddux Ridge Road near Baxter, Tennessee, to the late Ernest Maddux and Moncie Leftwich Maddux. She graduated from Algood School. During World War II, she worked at a munitions factory in Birmingham, Alabama. As a young woman, she worked for Trailways Bus Lines in Cookeville. After her marriage, she moved to Ohio for a time and worked at International Envelope in Dayton. After returning to Cookeville, she became an employee of First Tennessee Bank, and retired after a long career in the installment loans department. Mrs. Lane was married in 1947 to the late Noah W. (Doc) Lane. She was a member of Salem Church, and served there in various capacities. She especially enjoyed helping with Salem's food bank. She was a former board member of Algood Senior Citizens Center, and helped in the annual Quilt Festival for many years. She was a longstanding member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her niece Cindy Maddux Sexton of Virginia, nieces Darlene Marrs and Pauline Maddux and nephew James Maddux of Ohio, niece Debbie Flowers and special nephew Clyde Flowers of Cookeville, nephew John (Danny) Lane of Cookeville, niece Linda Brooks of Franklin, and great-nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Gilbert (Gib) Maddux, Robert (Bob) Maddux, and sisters Kathleen and Peggy Maddux. Bros. Ronnie Neal and Lynn Bullock will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
