Judy Carpenter

A graveside service with military honors for Ms. Judy Kaye Carpenter, age 68 of Pleasant Hill, will be held Tuesday, April 12th at 2 p.m. at Copeland Cemetery in Alpine, TN. Pastor Gary Robbins and Carter Davis will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the cemetery. She died Saturday, April 9th at Select Specialty Hospital in Knoxville. She was born December 21, 1947 in Memphis, TN to the late George "Dub" W. and Ruby Mayfield Carpenter. She was a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and later earned a Master's Degree from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. Judy lived her life serving and thinking of others. She was a member of the United States Air Force and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. She became a missionary, serving with the Southern Baptist's International Mission Board for 30 years in Jamaica, Brazil, Suriname and South Florida. Judy has a sweet, compassionate spirit. She enjoyed writing poetry and wrote a book entitled In His Hands. She moved to Cookeville in March of 2013 and lived in Morningside Assisted Living and attended First Baptist Church. Since moving to Pleasant Hill in December of 2014, she has been a beloved member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Mission where she served as a teacher and church photographer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Cooper. She is survived by her brother in law, Ron Cooper of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; nephews, Kevin Cooper and Leland Cooper; cousin, Teresa Sanders; lifelong friends, Wade and Joyce Raines of Cookeville; fellow missionaries, Charlotte and Carter Davis of Knoxville; and by friends, Janie and Gary Allen of Alpine. Memorial contributions are suggested and may be to The Shepherd's Cove Senior Retirement Village, 464 Wilder Hwy, Alpine, TN 38543. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
