John Powell

ALGOOD, TN--Mr. John William Powell went home to the Lord on January 7, 2021 peacefully in his sleep. John was born on March 19, 1926 in Putnam County, Indiana to the late Earl and Grace Armenia Love Powell. He was a retired Prudential Insurance agent. He was a former member of Kokomo Friends Church in Kokoma, Indiana and West Newton Friends Church in West Newton, IN. He has attended The River Community Church since moving to Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Eleanor O'Neal Powell; son, Gary Powell; daughter, Jan Ellen Ludwig; brother, Lewis Edward Powell; and sisters, Dorothy Milligan, Evelyn Ferguson, Elise Butcher, Ruth Smith and Norma Cook. He is survived by sons, Patrick Scott (Carol) of Cleveland, GA and Jay Evan (Patricia) of Rosemount, MN; son in law Bill Ludwig of North Vernon, IN, daughter in law, Kay of Algood TN. He is also survived by grandchildren who loved him very much, Whitney (Jeffrey) Williams, Emily Powell, Blair (Brandon) Blair, Sarah Powell (Aaron) Boettcher, Ryan Berdel, Evan (Lisa) Powell, Trevor Powell and Rebecca Berdel. In his last years he lived at Cedar Hills Assisted Living in Cookeville where he was an active participant in many group outings and was loved dearly by all the residents and staff. He enjoyed many happy days there and loved all of his caretakers. A memorial service were to be held on his birthday on March 19, 2021 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood IN.
