JOHN MYERS COOKEVILLE-Private graveside services and interment with Military Honors for John Henry Myers Jr., 89, of Tellico Village in Loudon County, TN and formerly of Algood, will be held Sunday, August 30 at 2 p.m. at Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Myers died Thursday morning, August 27, 2020 at his residence in Loudon County. He was born September 18, 1930 in Monterey, TN to the late John Henry Myers, Sr. and Melissa Katherine Pitts Myers. Mr. Myers honorably served his country with pride working at Oak Ridge National Lab processing uranium in the late 1940s at the beginning of the Cold War and then for 22 years as a Master Sgt. in the Army as an air traffic controller while being deployed all across the country, Germany and Vietnam on multiple occasions. He was a devoted family man who possessed both an intelligent mind and a soft heart. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and they spent years clogging together and putting on shows with their friends at Smileys Barn in White House, TN. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tellico Plains. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, JoAnn Winfree Myers; and by granddaughters, Amy Shaw and Mandy Shaw Williams. She is survived by his adoring family, his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Al Myers of Jackson, TN, Michael and Tammy Myers of Knoxville, TN; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marsha and Wayne Johnson of Lenior City, and Patricia (Burt Tackaberry) Myers of Knoxville; nine grandchildren, Angela (Mark) Wilburn, Wally (Jackie) Shaw, Randy Shaw, Lindsey (Sean) Green, Drew (Monique) Walker, Sonja (Nathan) Hamilton, Christina Haley and Stephanie (Justin) Patton; and by numerous great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Second Harvest Foodbank of East Tennessee, 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville, TN 37801, or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 355 Trane Lane, Knoxville, TN 37919.
