Joan Cummins, age 81, of Cookeville, passed away Sunday evening May 17, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born May 19, 1938 in Knoxville, TN to the late Robert Carroll Burns and Katherine Brown Burns. Joan graduated from Young High School in Knoxville, TN and attended the University of Tennessee where she met her husband, David. She and David later moved to Griffin, GA. Joan was voted Mrs. Macon Georgia in her early years. Joan was a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, paint, and entertain guests. She was a member of Collegeside Church of Christ. She is survived by three children and their spouses. Karen Cummins Thompson (Lyle), Steve Cummins (Debbie), and Scott Cummins (Shawn). She was also a grandmother of six: Lauren Thompson, Darrell Thompson, Hunter Cummins, Emily Cummins, Kalen Fleming (Taylor), and Ethan Cummins. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, David Gray Cummins; and her brother Robert C. Burns. Friends are invited to come by the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home to sign the guest book and pay their respects on Tuesday, May 19 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m with Kelly Campbell officiating. Due to Covid-19 precautions, limited seating and social distance measures will be observed. Interment will follow at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Jackson County.
