Jimmy Jones

Funeral services for James Lee “Jimmy" Jones, age 61 of Baxter, will be at 1 p.m Tuesday August 4 at Herren's Chapel Church of Christ. Bro. Tommy Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow at G. V. Herren Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Jimmy passed away Saturday morning August 1, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born March 24, 1959 in Barberton, OH as the youngest son of Warren G. and Lorna "Lucy" Herren Jones. He moved to Baxter in 1972 where he graduated from Upperman High School a year early in the class of 1976. He was a member of Herren's Chapel Church of Christ where he enjoyed serving in many capacities, but preferred song leading. For the last 30 years, he was the owner/operator of J. L. Jones Backhoe Service. What began with a single backhoe quickly expanded to a large collection of dump trucks and heavy equipment. Many of Jimmy’s customers and colleagues became his dear friends. He enjoyed working, riding motorcycles and ATVs, camping, playing guitar, and singing. He cherished spending time with his family-especially his grandkids and friends. In his own words, "Family is everything." Jimmy married the love of his life, Kathy Pharris Jones in June 1978. Together, they raised three children, Brooke Leigh Fleenor (Jeremy), Ashley Paige Ballard (Daniel), and James Warren Jones (Bridget) all of Baxter. He was the proud Poppa of Terrance and Gracie Dedmon, Chloe Fleenor, Eli Bullock, Gunnar Ballard, Christopher, Hailey, and Allie Jones. He is also survived by his brother, Warren (Judy) Jones Jr. of Clinton, OH; sister, Sandy Welte of Baxter; and father-in-law, Sherrill Pharris of Cookeville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Jones; brother-in-law, Larry Welte; brother-in-law, David Pharris; and mother-in-law, Betty Pharris. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Brown, David Shores, Ron Brown, Eric Weidekamp, Stewart Daniels, and Shawn Larson. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandchildren along with Daniel Ballard, Jeremy Fleenor, Jeff Youngblood, Roger Keith, Mike Herren, and Fred Bellis. In lieu of food and flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the G. V. Herren Cemetery Fund, c/o Lorna Lee, 9715 Old Baxter Rd, Baxter, TN 38544.
