A funeral mass for Mr. James Peter Evans, age 89 will be held MONDAY, MAY 15TH at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Father Jerry Kopel will officiate.  Military honors will be rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois at a later date.

His family will receive friends MONDAY MAY 15TH from 9:30am until service time at the church.

Mr. Evans died Sunday April 23, 2023 at Bethesda Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Akron, OH to the late Dr. John T. Evans and Olive Krill Evans.

Mr. Evans earned a bachelors degree from Kent State University and a masters degree from Depaul University. He received his CPA certification from the University of Illinois. He worked as an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service for over 20 years. He and his wife LaVerne moved to Algood in 1996 and have been members of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dr. John(Evelyn) Evans, Thomas (Martha) Evans and William Evans; sister, Mary Evans; and by an infant sister, Ruth Evans.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, LaVerne Evans, son, Mark J. Evans and wife Gretchen; grandson, Andrew C. Evans; sisters, Margaret Hopf and Judy Funk, many nieces and nephews; and by his friend and companion, his dog, Sammy. He is also survived by special friends, Roy and Diana Tudor.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN 38501.
