Funeral services for Mr. Hubert W. Bussell, 92 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, November 12 at 11 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Horace Burks and Gary Jett officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Bussell died Saturday afternoon November 9, 2013 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born January 27, 1921 in White County, Tennessee to the late Chester Arthur and Ritha Mae Davis Bussell. Mr. Bussell has been a member of Sycamore Church of Christ since 1970. He owned and operated Bussell Motor Company until his retirement in 1980. Following retirement he became a full-time farmer. He was always active in the community serving as an auxiliary policeman for a short time and a member of the Cookeville Zoning and Planning Commission for 25 years. He was an interested and active member of the community throughout his many years, following in the footsteps of his Father. His military career began with him serving in the 109th Calvary Troop A from 1939 to 1941. From 1941 to 1945 he served in the U. S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Bussell was known for his storytelling abilities and for his sense of humor. He practiced integrity in his business and insisted on honesty in all things. He was a dedicated family man. He made many friends in the years of his life and was a loyal friend always. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Bussell (who died August 16, 2013); sister, Ruby Kendall; and two brothers, Paul Bussell and Fred Bussell. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Bussell of Sparta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jimmy , Daniel and Kathy and Touch Lamb all of Cookeville; eight grandchildren, Jack (Fran) Daniel, Barry (Missy) Daniel, Rachel (Michael) Larkins, Libby Lamb, Jennifer (Paul) D'angelo, Cody Bussell, Jessica (Johnny) Sherfel, and Stephanie (Clint) Isbill; seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Burnece Franklin of Cookeville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Sycamore Church of Christ 1144 Cresent Drive Cookeville, TN 38501.
