Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Laverne Douglas, 89 of Cookeville will be held Wednesday February 22 at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Joe Roberts will officiate. Mrs. Douglas died Sunday morning February 19, 2012 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born November 28, 1922 in Tipton County, Tennessee to the late Hermon Glen LaVelle, Sr., and Robbie Merritt LaVelle. Mrs. Douglas was a long-time resident of Memphis before moving to Cookeville in 1991. She attended Memphis State College and was a kindergarten teacher for many years. She currently resided at Heritage Point and was a member of Collegeside Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herman E. "Doug"� Douglas; and brother-in-law, Dr. W.W. Davis. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Dale Douglas and wife, Rebecca of Cookeville, and Donald Douglas and wife, Patti of Stephenville, TX; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Davis of McMinnville; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Herman Glen LaVelle Jr. and wife, Jewell of Memphis and four nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Douglas"�s family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.
