Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Simmons, 94 of Cookeville will be held Friday, September 2, at 1:00 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. John Mayher will officiate. Her family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. She died suddenly Saturday August 27, 2022 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born July 2, 1928 in Putnam County, TN to the late Cassie Bumbalough and Mertie Cravens Bumbalough. Mrs. Gladys lived in Peoria, IL for many years with her late husband, Kenneth, where she worked in a meat market. They returned to Cookeville in 1996. She was a gifted homemaker and was a faithful and loving wife. She had a deep love and appreciation for flowers. She was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Simmons; brothers, Markum Bumbalough, Verd Bumbalough, Winley Bumbalough, Carlos Bumbalough and Dewey Bumbalough; and by a sister, Opal Duncan. She is survived by a brother, Floyd Bumbalough and wife Cynthia, of Illinois; and by a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
