Geneva Roberts

April 9, 1938 — June 3, 2024

MARYVILLE/COOKEVILLE, TN-Minnie Geneva Roberts passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, at the age of 86, in Maryville, Tennessee at Foothills Transitional Care & Rehabilitation. Born on April 9, 1938, in Cookeville, Tennessee, Geneva was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her, embodying the warmth and generosity of spirit that defined her life.

Geneva was the beloved matriarch of a family that adored her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mattie Bohannon Pennington, her devoted husband of 41 years, Doyle Roberts, her brother Glen Pennington, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Her loving legacy continues through her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Warren Hodges, her granddaughter Ashley and husband Dustin Kirby, her great-granddaughters Ellie and Emma Kirby, and the joyous anticipation of a third great-grandchild expected in December. Geneva also leaves behind her sisters-in-law Rose Harris and Louise Mayberry, along with numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

A proud graduate of Cookeville High School's class of 1956, Geneva's intellectual curiosity and commitment to excellence were evident early on. Her career as a telephone operator with General Telephone showcased her ability to connect with others and her dedication to service. Geneva's work was not just a job but a testament to her love for her community and her desire to bring people together.

Geneva's interests reflected the beauty and kindness that she cultivated in her life. An avid gardener, she found joy and tranquility in the simple act of nurturing plants and flowers, her garden a vibrant tapestry that mirrored the care she gave to her relationships. Geneva was the epitome of friendliness; she was a person who never met a stranger. Her infectious smile and open heart made her many friends and ensured that she was loved by many.

Words seem inadequate to describe the fullness of Geneva's character. Yet, if one were to try, 'friendly' would be the most fitting descriptor. Geneva's ability to make everyone feel like family, her genuine interest in others' lives, and her unwavering support for those she loved were hallmarks of her generous nature.
