COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Ernest C. Kirby, 88, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, from the chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sand Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the funeral home. Mr. Kirby died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 13, 1920, in Jackson County to the late Thomas Estes and Pollie Mae Fox Kirby. He was a machinist and a member of Algood Church of Christ. His family includes two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Bob Rivers of Cookeville and Debra and Kerry Hicks of Greenville, S.C.; four grandchildren, Dana Crouch and wife Lisa of Murfreesboro, Roy Crouch and wife Stephanie of Lenoir City, Katherine Hicks of Columbia, S.C., and Kirsten Hicks of Greenville; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Evon Kirby; a brother, Dallas Preston Kirby; and a sister, Ruby Ann Keown. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Bro. David Dalton of Algood Church of Christ will officiate at the services.
