Dorothea W. Shaw Spiegel, 93, passed away peacefully on March 4th 2015 at her daughter Connie Gilbert's home in Gainsboro, TN. She was a member of the Unity Church in Cookeville, TN. In 2010 Dorothea moved there from her home in Hiawassee, GA, where she lived since 1988 with her husband Earl who passed away in 2009. They were members of the Hiawassee United Methodist Church. Mrs. Spiegel was a creative and accomplished cook, seamstress, jewelry maker, musician and writer. While in Hiawassee, she was the Towns County's representative for the NC Writers Network West and a member of The North Georgia Writers Club. Her poems have appeared in many anthologies and her own poetry collections and one poem won first place in the Religious and Inspirational category in the Fields of the Earth Poetry Contest of 2012. The Spiegels moved from Rochester NY to Fort Pierce Florida in 1960 and lived there until their move to Hiawasee in 1988. Mrs. Spiegel was the executive secretary for the Ft. Pierce, Port St. Lucie Board of Realtors. Survivors are two daughters: Connie Gilbert of Gainsboro TN and Linda M. Smith of Hayesville, NC, two granddaughters, Alethea Dunajewski of Hutchinson Island, FL and Maria Fitzgerald of Deltona, Florida, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grand baby boy. Memorial service will be at the Unity Church in Cookeville, TN on Saturday, March 21st, at 2:30 pm.
