Dawson Lee Netherton, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023, at the age of 91 in his hometown of Cookeville, Tennessee. Born on December 7, 1931, to the late Robert Fain Netherton and Alice Carry Ray, Dawson lived a life characterized by selflessness, faith, and a strong work ethic.
Dawson is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Edith Eudene Moody Netherton; his daughter Linda Dianne Netherton, sisters Millie Wall, Veleda Bennett, Velma Eldridge, and Vivian Riddle; and by brothers Charlie Netherton, Bob Netherton and Vaden Netherton. He is survived by, son, David Netherton and wife Carol; four grandchildren, Michael and wife Sarah Netherton, Staci and husband Craig Eggleton, Michael and wife Marisa Borden, Marianne and husband Andy Harrell; and 11 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Cole Eggleton, David, Lydia, Susanna and Abigail Netherton, Hadley, Jude and Savannah Borden, and Hannon and Annie Hale Harrell.
Dawson was a hardworking and skilled electrician and TV repairman at Tennessee Tech. He was also a handy man, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
In his free time, Dawson enjoyed playing golf and bowling. He was an active member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and later attended First Baptist Church in Cookeville. Dawson's faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. He dedicated much of his time to outreach efforts through the First Baptist Church, touching the lives of many in his community.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 4th at 3:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. His family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. David Lee Netherton and David Michael Netherton will officiate.
Private family interment will be held Monday, June 5th at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
David Netherton, David Netherton Jr., Andy Harrell, Michael Borden, Barry Moody, Gary Moody, Billy Moody and Jeff Moody will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 111 Mack Ray Road, Cookeville, TN 38506.
