-Funeral services for Mr. Charles Dow Vaughn, 93, of Cookeville will be held Thursday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Rev. Max Mayo and Rev. Drew Shelley will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 "� 8 p.m. and again Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Vaughn died Monday morning May 14, 2012 at NHC of Cookeville. He was born March 20, 1919 in the Buffalo Valley Community of Putnam County to the late Walter Dow and Vida Duke Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn was a life-long member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church where he was a charter member of the Backsliders Sunday School Class. As a youth, he was employed with the Civilian Conservation Corp in Fentress County, TN. He was an US Army Veteran of WWII serving as a Corporal in the European Theatre with the Forward Observation Post Artillery Division. He was a member of both the Cookeville VFW Post 6296 and American Legion Post 46. He has been a member of Cookeville Masonic Lodge #266 F&AM over 59 years; member of the Scottish Rites Bodies and Al Menah Shrine Temple in Nashville. Mr. Vaughn founded Vaughn"�s Monuments in 1946 and for over 66 years served family's monument needs in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. He was a member of Tennessee (TMBA) and National (MBA) Monument Builders Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Vickers Vaughn; son, Michael Vaughn; two brothers, Sam Vaughn and Ray Vaughn; and two sisters, Virginia Moore and Wilma Bean Emerton. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David D. and Julie Vaughn; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky V. and Larry O"�Rear all of Cookeville; two sisters, Hallie Bohannon Jones and Lola Woolridge, both of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, Eric M. Vaughn and Suzanne N. Vaughn; and daughter-in-law, Delores Vaughn-Smith. Active pallbearers will be Brian Phillips, Tony White, Nick Lafever, Roy Haney, Sonny Harris, and Kevin Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Clouse, Sam Vaughn Jr., Jerry Barger, Steve Barger, Gary Vickers, John Vickers, Jim Moore, Ronnie Bean, and Donna McDonald.
