Charlene Foster Hutcherson, daughter of the late Essie Graves Foster and Henry Neviles Foster, died Sunday, July 3, 2011 in Chattanooga. Born July 11, 1923 in Cookeville, Tennessee, she attended Fairmont College in Washington, D.C. and Gulf Park College in Gulf Park, Mississippi. She graduated from Vanderbilt University, and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. A longtime resident of Lookout Mountain, she attended the First-Centenary United Methodist Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She also served on the Florence Crittenton Board, the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities and the Chattanooga Goodwill Industries Board. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames, the Daughters of the American Revolution (Chickamauga Chapter), and the Lookout Mountain Fairyland Club. She and her family were blessed with kindness and care provided by Rhetta Yates, Sandy Tidwell, Margaret Lackey, and many other family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Hutcherson Frierson, and grandson, Laurance William Frierson, of Falls Church, Virginia; sister, Jane Foster Mayberry and husband, Eugene, of Naples, Florida and Rochester, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Dwight Kilbourne will lead a memorial service at 4pm on Friday, July 8 at the First-Centenary United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends from 3-4pm in the church narthex. Graveside services and Internment will take place at 11am (CST) on Saturday, July 9 at 11am at the Cookeville City Cemetery with Rev. Max Mayo officating. Contributions may be made to your preferred charity, Vanderbilt University, First United Methodist Church, 165 E. Broad St., Cookeville, TN 38501 or the First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37401.
