Carl Mervin Hellman, died on October 12, 2023, in Cookeville, TN. Born on December 6, 1937, in Shelton, Washington. Carl was a man of deep faith, a loving family man, and a dedicated professional.
Carl was the son of the late Carl Edward Hellman and Georgia McKay Hellman. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Jane Hurt Hellman, and their three children, Michael (Ann) Hellman of Cookeville, Mark (Mahlon) Hellman of Hendersonville, and Mickie (Jason) Malham of White House, TN. Carl was a proud grandfather to Sara Hellman, Brianna Hellman, Nicholas Malham, Olivia (Lorne) Jaques, Joseph (Sadie) Malham, Aaron Malham, Marlee Hellman, and Manning Hellman. He is also survived by a sister, Kay (RJ Saxvold) Hellman of Seattle, WA; and by a brother, Ed Hellman, of Shelton, WA.
Carl obtained his doctorate from The University of Washington. He was dedicated to his profession and used his extensive knowledge to serve the community as a pharmacist. Carl began his career in the United States Army as a pharmacist, a role that he held with great honor and distinction. He later transitioned to civilian life and became a respected pharmacy owner. He also worked in various hospitals and private companies, always ensuring the best care for his patients.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Carl was deeply involved in his local church, the Samaria Church of Christ since moving to Cookeville twenty years ago. His faith was a guiding principle in his life, and he served the church as a deacon, embodying the teachings of Christ in his everyday life. Those who knew Carl would often describe him as a faith-filled man.
Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, Carl was a handyman who loved the outdoors. He spent countless hours working on his property, tending to the landscape with a meticulous hand and a joyous heart. His love for travel saw Carl and Jane exploring four continents, creating memories and experiences that he would fondly share with his family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Carl Mervin Hellman, age 85 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. David Eldridge will officiate. His family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Standing guard at the casket will be members of the Putnam County Rescue Squad.
Interment will be held also on Tuesday, October 17 at 3:00 p.m. in the Hendersonville (TN) Memory Gardens.
Nicholas Malham, Joseph Malham, Aaron Malham, Lorne Jaques, Tim Carr, and Joe Reddick will serve as pallbearers.
