Betty Dyess

Betty J. Dyess, age 93, of Cookeville, TN, passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Betty was born on January 2, 1924, in Minneapolis, MN. In 1945, during WWII, she married Edward Dyess during his Navy service in San Diego and her service as a "Rosie the Riveter." She worked many years as an executive secretary in banking, education, and the Southern Baptist Convention. During the 71 years of their marriage, Betty and Edward lived in California, Minnesota, Louisiana, Texas, and most recently in Cookeville, TN. Betty's deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was evident throughout her life to her family and friends. Betty is survived by her husband, Edward of Cookeville, TN; daughter, Cheryl (David) Carlson of Cookeville, TN; sons, David (Theresa) Dyess of El Prado, NM, and Steven (Betty) Dyess of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Mark Carlson, Kristin (Steven) Bradshaw, Rachel (John) Rollyson, and Emily Dyess; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A family service will be held Wednesday, January 18, at 11:00am at the Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Algood City Cemetery.
