Mrs. Bernice Louise Nixon (GeGe), beloved mother and "grandma" to everyone who knew her, age 90 of Silver Point, died Tuesday January 13, 2015 at her residence. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11am at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 10am until service time at the funeral home. Rev. Jim Rogers will officiate. She was born February 23, 1924 in Chicago, IL to the late Walter and Marie Crespin Wedel. Mrs. Nixon was a longtime resident of Lombard, IL, where she worked as a secretary in real estate and other businesses. She and her late husband lived in Naples, FL for 18 years. She moved to Silver Point with her family in September of 2013. She was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed playing card games and volunteering. She was a very active and vibrant lady prior to her sudden illness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert William Nixon. She is survived by daughters, Bonnie (Stephen) Vokoun of Silver Point and Janet (Charles) Rice of Illinois; grandchildren, Curt Vokoun of Silver Point, Connie (Bill) Rake of Florida, Robert Rice and Christine Rice, both of Illinois; great grandchildren, Kyle Rake, Stephen Vokoun, Tanner Vokoun, Priscilla Rice, Mason Rice and Maden Rice; three great grandchildren; and by sister, Ruth Halavity of Utah. Memorial contributions may be made to Upper Cumberland Hospice, 570 State Street, Cookeville, TN 38501.
