Anita Wert Wall Moore, 96, died May 5, 2020, surrounded by family at her home in Cordova, TN from complications following a stroke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dr. David Franklin Moore; her brothers Wilkes Hammock Wall, Jr. and Dr. James Thomas Wall; and her parents Neta Ozenia Williams Wall and Wilkes Hammock Wall, Sr. Anita grew up in Cookeville, Tennessee, thriving in spite of the Great Depression and World War II. She earned a business administration degree from Tennessee Tech University. After her husband’s medical training was completed, they lived in Memphis for the remainder of their lives. Anita worked for a period of time at Goldsmith’s and at Memphis State University’s Advisory Center. She was an active member of Mullins United Methodist Church for nearly 68 years, longer than any other current member. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and helped with the youth. Her faith and her church family were of great value and a blessing to her. She was a 4 gallon blood donor—a tiny lady with a huge heart! Anita loved and cherished her family and friends and was known not only as Anita but as Sister, Mother, Mom, Aunt Nita, Grandmother and Gigi. She made sure that her children kept up with each other and their families. She was the hub - the central station - for all things related to the family. She enthusiastically supported all of her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities. People were important to her and she loved knowing them. She was always very appreciative of every kindness and saved every card, note, letter and email sent to her. A lady with an adventurous spirit, Anita learned to fly and made her first solo flight at age 22. Mentally alert and still living at home until her stroke, she stayed active throughout her life, climbing down and back up the Grand Canyon in her 60’s, hiking to the summit of Mount Le Conte in her 70’s, skydiving in her 80’s, and all along the way loving to swim and play in the lake - even riding an inner tube and kayaking when she was 96. She loved family gatherings, playing bridge, and attending theatre and musical performances. Traveling was a joy: Scotland, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and cruises with her children. A loving mother, she leaves her four children, Franklin (Ann) Moore of Alpharetta, GA; Doug (Debora) Moore of Bartlett, TN; Molly (Milton) Robinson of Hot Springs, AR; and Missy (Joe) Skinner of Memphis, TN. She also leaves a brother, John Wall of Algood, TN, and a sister, Lula Bartholomew of Oak Ridge, TN; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many more family and friends who loved her dearly. Family graveside services and interment will be held Friday May 8, 2020 at Algood Cemetery in Algood, Tennessee, with Rev. Rob Wheeler officiating. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers any memorials be sent to Mullins United Methodist Church Music Program Fund, 4 No. Mendenhall Road, Memphis 38117, or BrightFocus Foundation (macular degeneration research) at www.brightfocus.org. Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (931)526-6111. Share memories and condolences at hhhfunerals.com
