Funeral services for Mary Addine Womack Swack Dow, 101, of Cookeville will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery in Sparta, TN. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 – 7 P.M. and again Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until services at the funeral home. Mrs. Dow died at her home on Sunday morning, May 5, 2013. She was born October 6, 1911 in White County, TN to the late William Norman and Daisy Denton Womack. Mrs. Dow was a retired elementary school teacher and taught in White County, Tennessee and Caddo Parrish, Louisiana. She was a graduate of White County High School and Tennessee Technological University and was a member of the Collegeside Church of Christ for many years where she taught Bible classes for pre-schoolers. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Family and Community Education Club (FCE) where she was a past president. Mrs. Dow especially enjoyed music. She along with Almon Smith founded the musical group Side by Side. They played for a number of years at nursing homes and special occasions. The band eventually took on more members and was known as Mrs. Dow and the Boys. She is survived by two nieces, Sylvia Sharon Womack of Cookeville and Brenda Sue Womack Geer of Sparta; one sister-in-law, Lela Sullivan Womack of Cookeville; several other nieces and nephews by marriage; and many cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Sylvia Doyne Womack; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Norman Denton and Leona Hensley Womack and Roy Franklin Womack; two husbands, Larry Swack and David Thomas Dow; and one son Tyrone Larry Swack. Pallbearers will be friends and family including, Almon Smith and Alfred Ashburn. Dr. Harold Duncan, Jr. and Bro. Joe Roberts will officiate at the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Happy Haven Children's Home 2311 Wakefield Drive Cookeville, TN 38501.
